Benoît Piranda is Associate Professor (HDR) of Computer Science at the University of Franche-Comté (UFC) in France. He is part of the FEMTO-ST institute (UMR CNRS 6174), member of the complex networks team (DISC/OMNI).
He leads the Distributed Algorithms for Programmable Matter research group.
Research
His main domains of research are: programmable matter, distributed algorithm, simulation of MEMS sensor/actuator networks, physical and visual simulations, computer graphics (image synthesis), virtual and augmented reality.
Please visit this web site for more media on the research.
He is active member of many projects on programmable matter and distributed algorithms (Binky Blocks, 3D Catoms, Datoms). Visit the Programmable Matter website for more details.
He leads the VisibleSim project a simulator for distributed program running in robots placed in a regular grid. Robots are able to exchange messages and move from one cell to a neighbor one.
Conference organization
Benoît Piranda has worked on the organization of several conferences, served as Executive General Chair, Program chair and Publicity chair, and was member of the numerous program committees (IEEE ATC 2017, IEEE EUC 2016, IEEE CSE 2016, IEEE HPCC 2014, IEEE Ithings 2012, IEEE GreenCom 2012, IEEE CPSCom 2012).
He is Executive General Chair for the DARS'2022 conference on Distributed Programming and Autonomous robot systems.
Teaching
He is teaching in University of Franche-Comté, UFR STGI, Multimedia and Computer Science Department (M2I).
He leads the Pedagogical team of the Master of Computer Sciences "Internet Of Things" of the University of Bourgogne Franche Comté.
